Amelia’s 2026 London Marathon Journey…..
With around two and a half months to go until the London Marathon, training is well and truly underway – and it is starting to feel very real! Soon I will be standing at the start line of the London Marathon with thousands of other runners – equal parts of nervous, excited and determined, but proud to be there supporting Headway Derby, a cause that means a great deal to me.
When you think of a marathon, you think of 42kilometres / 26.2miles of running. What you don’t think of is the 840 kilometres of training miles, endless hours strength training and never-ending stretching that comes before. A marathon is more than just a run; it’s sore legs, muddy shoes, dark nights, painful massages, complicated hair wash routines, carbs that break your macro counter, and sacrifice in every part of your life.
So far, my training has been a mix of highs and humbling moments. Some runs feel effortless whilst others feel like wading through mud. But week by week, the milage is building, confidence is growing and my long runs feel a little less intimidating.
What keeps me going – particularly on those tougher days – is knowing I’m doing this for Headway Derby. Their work improving the quality of life for those with a brain injury makes every kilometre feel more meaningful. Remembering the impact this charity has on real people is a powerful push to keep moving forward.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of my supporters, I have already raised £581 towards my target of £3000. Every donation, every message of support and every share has genuinely made a difference. It’s amazing how much easier the challenge can feel when you know people are behind you and the cause you’re running for.
Whilst there’s still a lot of work to do – 542 kilometres worth (!!) – between now and the start line. I am proud of how far this journey has taken me so far, and I am excited to keep pushing.
If you’re able to support my fundraising, thank you – it’s genuinely appreciated. Your support helps Headway Derby continue their important work and makes this challenge even more worthwhile.
Thank you to everyone who’s supported the training and fundraising so far.
